Retreat into Nature & ReConnect at Your Own Pace
Access unspoiled wilderness without an expensive air taxi or soggy boat ride: Nestled in the remote, wild part of northern Wrangell St. Elias National Park & Preserve, our working family lodge is a warm, friendly home away from home. Whether your first trip to Alaska or your tenth, this special place offers you the chance to slow down, gather your senses, and reconnect.
Enjoy authentic Alaskan hospitality in this beautiful, peaceful park setting with cozy cabins and yurts, canoeable lakes, and fresh, local cuisine. The millions of undeveloped parkland acres surrounding us provide a haven of quiet, without the buzz of small planes or cars going by all day. Experience deep time Alaska - as it felt thousands of years ago, when the first people arrived.
Our off-grid operation provides modern amenities for guest comfort year-round with an incredibly small footprint - sustainability in practice. From our solar panels and windmill to renewable heat sources and greenhouse, we believe it’s our job to be stewards of this special place.
Your Hosts
Owners Michael and Victoria Rego have poured heart and soul into restoring the property, and continue raising their family in one of the last untamed parts of Alaska. Their lodge is truly an American dream in the works. Everyone pitches in to make sure chores are done and guests want for nothing.
Michael is a lifelong Alaskan whose experience and appreciation for this place runs deep, from helping his dad grow summer gardens above the Copper River every year and riding his bike down to hook the legendary king salmon, he has spent countless hours exploring and enjoys sharing what he has learned with friends old and new. He is also the engineer behind this operation and ensures reliable, continuous heat, power, water, and connectivity year-round.
Victoria achieved her lifelong dream of working as an archaeologist in Alaska nearly 20 years ago, and today homeschools their children in one of the most beautiful wild places on earth, where the labors of their hands provide sustenance year-round and make this unique opportunity for guests possible.
Whether you're on vacation, hiking, fishing, stargazing, snowmachining, or working here in North America’s largest national park, we welcome you to our home. Though this area has no hotels, restaurants, or crowds for miles around, we provide the essentials and then some to make your trip unforgettable. If you’re looking for the real, unedited Alaska - you’ll find it here with us!
World-class scenery & Outdoor adventures
Hiking
June through September is best for exploring the area’s trails (Skookum Volcano, Rambler Mine, Caribou Creek). The cooler temperatures are perfect for hiking, daylight is longer, and the wildflowers are blooming.
Migratory Bird Watching
The spring and fall months are best (February-May & September-October) to watch the Trumpeter swans, golden & bald eagles, multiple hawks, owls, ducks, and other life-listers. The area is full of birdsong May to September.
fishing & Hunting
Fishermen are advised to bring light tackle for the Arctic grayling, char, & lake trout commonly found in the area’s lakes and streams. Upland birds, moose, & caribou can be sighted here as well.
Ice Climbing
Some of the earliest ice climbing of the year— late October through early December.
skiing & Snow machining
For backcountry/cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking, and snow machining - the lakes are usually iced for travel by late Nov./early Dec.
February through April conditions are best, with those gorgeous bluebird days.
Northern lights
The Northern Lights are typically overhead October through April, with the warmest night temperatures (for more comfortable viewing) late-February through April.
old favorite, new life
Originally carved from raw land in the 1950s, this homesteading site was eventually turned into “Sportsman's Paradise” - a truly one-of-a-kind lodge in North America’s largest national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. For over half a century this has been the place where wild souls experience incredible adventures and return year after year.
Constructed from beautiful salvaged bridge timbers by an inventive homesteader and his family, the main lodge has offered hunters, fishers, and explorers of all sorts a comfortable base to meet, visit, rest, and recharge. The lodge’s services have varied over the years, from fly-in hunting and fishing trips to tavern, cafe, liquor store, residence, and guest accommodations.
Today our family is improving the property with some much needed TLC and facility upgrades to ensure the best experience for our guests. The lodge and guest cabins are available year-round, with limited tavern hours in winter and a hot-water wash house Memorial Day - Labor Day. We are pleased to offer warm, friendly accommodation and welcome adventurers of all stripes to experience the beauty and tranquility of the place we call home.
We look forward to meeting you,
